My mom would say when I was four I was challenging my taste buds with various sorts of caterpillars and insects. By the time I was twelve I was adamant that plastic rings surrounding soda cans be cut into a million pieces so that it wouldn't end up around the bills of my beloved ducks. Needless to say, I've been a lover of the environment and the sciences since I was little.
I was lucky to have some of the most talented and engaging professors in college that were just as fascinated as I was with genetics, ecology, biology and microbiology and were willing to begin to explain "the inconceivable nature of Nature" with me. I received a Bachelors Degree in Microbiology from Mississippi University for Women in 2008 and completed my Masters in Science Education through East Carolina University in 2010.
I have three amazing boys and a partner in crime that fill me with love and laughter and help make this journey one heck of a joy ride. We love the outdoors and try and spend as much time as we can hiking (section hiking The Appalachian Trail is on our bucket list), exploring uncharted territories, and genuinely just making fools of ourselves along the way. I'm an avid spelunker and spend a lot of time venturing into the underground and crawling through various passages.
